Squadstack is a 250-person company with an engineering team of 50. They operate across multiple AWS accounts within a multi-cloud setup. The team's primary AWS spend goes towards services RDS,EC2 ,S3, SageMaker and CloudWatch.
As part of their financial strategy, Squadstack has a clear objective to keep infrastructure costs within a specific percentage of their revenue. Ensuring this balance while scaling and managing complex cloud environments became increasingly important for them.
Initially, the company operated with a single AWS root account, regularly monitoring their architecture and AWS reports. However, as they scaled and transitioned to an organizational AWS account setup, their visibility decreased, since they no longer logged into these accounts regularly.
